Recommendation

Different types of standing seam roofing systems exist on the market. The first type is made of profiled sheets which are then assembled on the roof. The second type is made of metal delivered in sheets or small coils, which are seamed directly on the roof by the installer. This second type of system requires high formable grades to allow the seaming. The metal usually used is very soft (DX54 or DX56) and the coating highly formable (as Granite® HFX Cool), to allow the seaming, even at low temparature in order to allow its processing outdoor in cold climates.

Steel can be installed exactly the same way as zinc or copper. Distance between seams is often 600mm and the steel thickness in commonly 0.6mm. One century ago, only zinc was used for standing seam roofs. The new generation of standing seam roofs now uses steel: either with a metallic look like Aluzinc® HFX, or with various colours, like Granite® HFX Cool. For Granite® HFX Cool, we recommend a substrate with a zinc layer of minimum 275g/sqm is mandatory (or equivalent).

A life time guarantee is linked to our Granite® offer for this application. It can be granted automatically or on request, depending the product, building type and area. Please read our Granite® guarantee conditions.

By choosing ArcelorMittal best in class products, you can extend the life time of the building system. You make the choice of a guaranteed quality and sustainability, as our products are certified without chromates and heavy metals (compliant with REACh European regulation).
